Dianne Patricia Davis Metropolitan Funeral

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Dianne Patricia Davis affectionately known as “Dee Dee,” age 72, of Norfolk, VA was called home to be with the Lord May 29, 2023. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 18, 1950. Dianne gave her life to the Lord at a young age. She was a caregiver at heart and helped to care for her younger siblings. Upon graduating from Booker T. Washington High School Dianne pursued her career as secretary with the City of Norfolk’s Parking Division. She remained with the City of Norfolk for over 30 years until she retired. Dianne was a lifelong learner and continued her education at Tidewater Community College where she received an associate degree in business administration.

Dianne’s public service extended beyond the City of Norfolk to include active participation in the Norview Civic League and Norview Parks and Recreation Senior Services program. She touched many lives with her kindness, loyalty, and loving spirit. She always shared encouraging words and was admired by all for being a confidant. Dianne was a former member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church and Trinity-Word of Faith where she served as trustee.

Dianne enjoyed watching sports and was a prevailing Washington Redskins/Commanders fan. She enjoyed spending time with family and could be found playing Bid Whist, Pokeno, and Spades. Dianne was a travel enthusiast along with her husband they enjoyed cruises, trips to Disney World, Las Vegas, and weekend getaways to Delaware and Williamsburg. She was an avid collector of Mickey Mouse watches.

Dianne had an undeniable love for God and her family. For 37 years she was the “acting” mother and grandmother for her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She had some “mighty big shoes to fill” but managed to do so gracefully. We fondly remember getting treated to the Ringling Brother’s circus and VIP access to the Harbor Fest fireworks every year. Dianne shared a special bond with her sisters. They enjoyed quality time together traveling and dining out. She also shared a special bond with her brothers, talking with them almost daily. We lovingly joked that Dianne never acquired a driver’s license; however, she never missed an event and always arrived early.

She was preceded in death by her parents Josephine and Charles Tanner and her beloved son, Cassius Lorenzo Edwards and Charles Davis, Jr. Left to cherish her memory is her dedicated husband, Charles Davis, Sr. who took impeccable care of her during her time of illness. Her children Aleta Jenkins (Samuel), Regina Benson (Charles), Cynthia Davis (Todd), Maurice Davis (Shannon), and Angela Edwards; grandchildren Nicole, Tiffany, Shanika, Zoquanna, Erika, Melvin, Jordan, Kobe, and Brittany, 11 great grandchildren; siblings Thelma Tanner, Brenda Hall (Dennis), Gwendolyn Burden, Annette Williams (Everette), Charles Tanner, Jr. (Gwen), Michael Tanner, Harold Patrick Tanner (Vera); a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
